What it means when Octopath software has been used in research involving your pathology slides, and your rights.
1. What Octopath does
Octopath builds software that counts and classifies cells on digital images of pathology slides. On Compass Platform, a pathologist or researcher runs an algorithm on a slide image and then reviews every detection the software makes.
2. Research and evaluation only
Compass Platform is currently used for research and evaluation. Its outputs are not used to make a diagnosis or a treatment decision about you. Any diagnosis is made by your clinical team using their normal process.
3. How slides are handled
Before a slide image is uploaded, the organisation must remove anything that directly identifies you. Images and results stay on that organisation’s own systems. Octopath does not attempt to identify anyone from an image.
4. Use of images to improve the software
Under our licence, an organisation may allow de-identified images and results to be used to evaluate, validate and improve our algorithms, and may opt out of that use at any time by writing to us.
5. Your rights
Your rights over your health data are held with the organisation that treats you, which is the controller of that data. Questions about the use of your slides in research should be directed to that organisation in the first instance. You may also contact us at privacy@octopath.ai.
